Smartphone usage among older adults

Problematic smartphone usage, associated with impaired daily functioning, has gained increased attention among researchers. However, extant research is focusing on adolescents and younger adults. This paper investigates usage older adults, of which less known. To do so, we conducted a cross-sectional survey 154 users (60+ years) in Norway using structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). We examined the contributing roles loneliness, habit, social influence, emotional gain, fear missing out, self-control, problematic usage. further investigated how adults engage their smartphones. Our findings suggest that use smartphones for various non-social reasons media news reading are most common areas. Furthermore, found low prevalence Whereas influence habit were strong predictors loneliness was not. Fear out not prevalent As expected, higher self-control lower use. Finally, discuss contributions implications our findings.
